Five million solar panels connected for first time No one expected what happened

03 June 2024 00:04

EcoNews carries an article about solar energy which is experiencing unparalleled growth throughout the world, Caliber.Az reprints the article.

As many already know, solar energy is experiencing unparalleled growth throughout the world, and photovoltaic technology has advanced by leaps and bounds while obtaining great results. This has made the energy obtained through solar panels increasingly accessible and therefore more competitive compared to traditional energy sources.

Innovation in the energy sector: this is what the largest photovoltaic field will look like

For some time now we have seen how large projects have been created, such as huge fields covered by solar panels, photovoltaic energy merged with the agricultural sector and even solar panels using the surface of bodies of water to make the most of the available land.

Well, now some details have been released about one of the largest solar projects ever built. It is being carried out in the Philippines and promises to be one of the most impressive giants ever built.

Such large-scale solar projects are a clear example of how solar energy can play a key role in the transition to a cleaner, more sustainable energy future, with such an impact that it has led to a dramatic decrease in the cost of installing solar panels.

Learn about the impressive energy potential this colossus will have

The intention behind this project is extravagant, considering that it is planned to reach the impressive capacity of producing 3400 megawatts (MW) obtained from the solar panels that will be installed, these would also be backed by 4000 megawatt hours (MWh) in battery storage. Can you imagine the potential of this energy plan?

The aforementioned may stop sounding crazy when we understand that this plan has a land area covering at least 3500 hectares. On the other hand, land clearing operations are already underway, preparing the area to house more than five million solar panels.

This energy capacity will not only be significant locally, but also represents an impact on global energy production in the production of clean and sustainable energy.

This project will not only surpass in size the Bhadla Solar Park in India and the Golmud Solar Park in China, but will also exceed the combined capacity of all grid-connected solar projects in the Philippines. It is estimated to generate around five per cent of the total volume of the Philippine grid and 12 per cent of its total demand, once completed.

Large-scale renewables: monumental investments for the solar panels of the future

Although this sounds like a very attractive proposition, we need to point out that this project is still in its first phase, however, it is estimated that it could be ready by the first quarter of 2026. Due to the aforementioned date, the company has accelerated the preparation of the area.

With a plan of such magnitude, no less than Php200 billion can be expected, it has been confirmed. The amount will not have been in vain since, once completed, it is expected to produce approximately five billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, which is about five per cent of the total volume of the Philippine grid and 12 per cent of its demand.

This not only represents a major breakthrough for renewable energy in the Philippines, it is also a major step in the broader global fight against climate change. In this way, the Philippines is setting an example for other countries to follow in building a cleaner, more sustainable and reliable energy future.
