Erdogan, NATO secretary-general discuss Ukraine ahead of US-Russia summit
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a phone call with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte on August 14, the Turkish Communications Directorate stated.
The leaders discussed the latest developments in the Russia-Ukraine war, as well as broader regional and global issues, Caliber.Az reports via Anadolu.
Erdogan highlighted progress in the Istanbul talks aimed at securing a lasting ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, emphasizing the importance of the negotiations delivering tangible humanitarian results.
Rutte shared his perspective on the situation in Ukraine ahead of the high-stakes Alaska summit between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Erdogan confirmed that Türkiye is closely monitoring preparations for the meeting.
The Alaska summit, scheduled for August 15 at 11:30 a.m. local time (23:30 GMT+4), will mark the first encounter between sitting US and Russian presidents since the start of Russian invasion of Ukraine nearly three and a half years ago.
