Kremlin outlines agenda for Putin–Trump talks in Alaska
The Kremlin has confirmed the agenda for the upcoming meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump, set to take place on August 15 at the Elmendorf-Richardson military base in Anchorage, Alaska.
Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said to reporters that the Russian delegation was approaching the talks with a businesslike attitude, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
“The discussions will be practical, and naturally, we are all in a constructive frame of mind,” he noted.
The Russian delegation will include Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Defence Minister Andrey Belousov, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov, Ushakov himself, and presidential envoy for international investment and economic cooperation Kirill Dmitriev.
Ushakov said the Ukraine conflict would be the central focus of the talks, with the leaders also expected to address bilateral cooperation, including economic and trade relations.
The base, formed in 2010 by merging Elmendorf Air Force Base and Fort Richardson, played a key role in countering the Soviet Union during the Cold War and continues to host strategic aircraft, including F-22 Raptors.
Analysts say the secure military setting allows Trump to showcase U.S. strength while minimising public disruption.
The talks come as Trump seeks a ceasefire deal he pledged during his 2024 campaign to achieve swiftly, with European leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, emphasising the U.S. aim for a truce.
Ukrainian and European officials have voiced concern that the private meeting could yield concessions to Moscow.
Trump has suggested future negotiations could involve land swaps and potentially a follow-up summit with both Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
