FM Szijjártó warns Ukraine against interfering in Hungarian elections
Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Péter Szijjártó, has warned that Ukraine could face serious consequences if it interferes in Hungary’s elections.
Szijjártó made the statement on social media platform X, responding to remarks by his Ukrainian counterpart, Andrii Sybiha, who allegedly “just announced that the Ukrainian government is participating in the Hungarian elections.”
“But Minister, be careful! You will lose a lot. More than you would think,” Szijjártó cautioned.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha recently criticised Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán for blocking Ukraine’s EU accession, arguing that Orbán is prioritising domestic political narratives over the interests of ethnic Hungarians in Transcarpathia.
Sybiha warned that Orbán’s stance aligns with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s interests by prolonging the war in Ukraine and undermining European peace and security. The minister emphasised that Hungary and its citizens deserve a future grounded in dignity, freedom, and European integration, rather than being used as pawns in Orbán’s geopolitical and domestic agendas.
