France awaits new PM as Macron prepares to make key decision

French President Emmanuel Macron is preparing to appoint a new prime minister.

The Élysée Palace is expected to release an official statement announcing the president's decision between 5:00 (GMT+2) and 8:00 (GMT+2). The position will most likely be filled by Xavier Bertrand, a member of the Republican party, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

Previously, it was reported that President Macron has been holding consultations with party leaders and other political figures to determine the suitability of potential candidates for this role. Among the contenders are Republican Xavier Bertrand and former Socialist Prime Minister Bernard Cazeneuve, who served from 2016 to 2017.
