Chancellor Scholz acknowledges role of migrants in Germany’s economic success
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has emphasized the vital contribution of immigration to the prosperity and economic strength of Germany, stating that the country would not have achieved its current wealth without the influx of millions of migrants from around the world.
In an interview with the German media, Scholz remarked, "Germany is absolutely not a country like some people think it is. It is a country that could not have acquired, preserved, and further multiplied all its wealth, all its economic power in recent decades without the immigration of millions of people from other countries," Caliber.Az reports.
Scholz’s comments come as part of a broader discussion on Germany's immigration policies and the country’s evolving demographic landscape. The Chancellor also expressed pride in the reform of Germany's citizenship law, which was approved in June 2024. The reform stipulates that a child born in Germany to non-citizen parents will automatically receive German citizenship, with the parents eligible for citizenship five years later.
This legislative change is part of the government's broader efforts to integrate immigrants and their descendants into German society, recognizing their significant role in the nation’s economic success and social fabric.
