Media: Two new wildfires erupt in California's Riverside County evacuations underway
Two new wildfires, named Scout Fire and Stone Fire, have broken out in Riverside County of California amidst persistent wildfire-prone weather conditions, triggering a fresh wave of evacuations.
The National Weather Service has warned of factors contributing to the heightened fire risk, including strong winds of 45-70 mph (20-31 m/s) and relative humidity levels ranging from 8% to 15%, Caliber.Az reports via Axios.
San Diego County remains under high fire risk, as the region experienced powerful gusts on January 14.
Meteorologists predict that weather conditions will worsen in the coming week, potentially leading to additional wildfire outbreaks.
Note that, wildfires raging through Southern California have caused damage estimated between $250 billion and $275 billion, surpassing losses from recent major natural disasters such as Hurricane Helene and the 2023 Maui wildfires.
The Palisades and Eaton fires, the largest in the region, have destroyed over 12,000 buildings, including high-value properties between Santa Monica and Malibu. The Palisades Fire, which began on January 7, has consumed nearly 20,000 acres in the Pacific Palisades area.
The fires have devastated celebrity homes, disrupted Hollywood's awards season, and destroyed landmarks like the Will Rogers ranch and parts of Palisades Charter High School. Firefighters continue battling the blazes.
