France calls for thorough probe after soldiers killed in Lebanon
French President Emmanuel Macron has called on Lebanese authorities to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the deaths of two French soldiers in Lebanon.
Macron said Paris expects “the full establishment of the truth” and a transparent inquiry into the attack that led to the fatalities, BFM reports.
He emphasized that those responsible must be identified, detained, and brought to justice.
Earlier, Macron confirmed the death of one of the soldiers, who had sustained serious injuries in Lebanon.
A French soldier has died after being seriously wounded during an ambush in southern Lebanon, President Emmanuel Macron said.
Corporal Anicet Girardin, who served in the 132nd Cynotechnical Infantry Regiment based in Suippes, had been injured in an attack attributed to Hezbollah fighters. He was repatriated to France but died from his injuries shortly afterward.
Macron stated in a post on X that the soldier had died in service to France and expressed condolences to his family, loved ones, and others affected by the incident.
