France prepared to move Olympic ceremony should security threat get too high
French President Emmanuel Macron has indicated that he would be willing to move the 2024 Olympic opening ceremony if the security threat becomes too high.
While he expressed reluctance to change plans hastily, Macron mentioned the existence of contingency plans (Plan B, Plan C, etc.) that could be activated if "the level of insecurity requires us to revisit the initial scheme", as reported by Sky News.
The planned ceremony is set to take place at the River Seine.
European security officials have warned of a growing risk of attacks by Islamist militants amid the Israel-Hamas war, ranking "lone wolf" assaults as the highest threat as they are hard to track.
The security concerns have increased amid the Israel-Hamas war, and France raised its security threshold in October following an attack in which a man with a knife killed a teacher in northern France.
