French FM rejects Ukraine peace talks without European involvement
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barro has insisted that any negotiations on peace in Ukraine cannot take place without European participation.
Barro emphasised that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to Paris “is no coincidence,” noting that France is making every effort to ensure that “everything is done in the interests of peace in Ukraine and European security,” Caliber.Az reports per French media.
Barro also highlighted adjustments made to a 28-point plan initially proposed by US President Donald Trump, which, he said, were significantly modified to take European interests into account.
“On one hand, we succeeded in removing all elements affecting Europeans, and on the other, we secured a clear commitment from the United States to work with us on so-called security guarantees—military measures designed to prevent further aggression after peace is achieved,” Barro said.
Zelenskyy has visited the Élysée Palace to meet with French President Emmanuel Macron, as the nearly four-year conflict in Ukraine enters a critical phase, with both Kyiv and Moscow reviewing a peace proposal put forward by US President Donald Trump’s administration.
