G7 leaders may skip final statement amid disagreement with Trump
Leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) summit, scheduled to take place in Canada from June 15 to 17, may from the outset decide not to adopt a joint final statement.
The summit is already being shaped by political tension. A collective draft statement - typically a hallmark of G7 gatherings - is not currently under discussion, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
In its place, organisers are preparing seven separate declarations that will address specific areas of international cooperation, including artificial intelligence, critical mineral supply chains, infrastructure, and migration policy. Two particularly contentious topics - global trade and relations with Russia - will be excluded from the official agenda entirely, in an effort to prevent further discord during the high-level meetings.
On May 21, Trump stated that the "Group of Eight" (G8) format, which included Russia, was much better than the current G7. He expressed the opinion that if Russia had remained part of the organisation, the Ukrainian crisis could have been avoided.
