Romanian officials travel to US for talks on Russian drone incidents

Romanian President Nicușor Dan has dispatched his national security adviser, Marius Lazurca, and Chief of the Defence General Staff General Vlad Gheorghiță to the United States for talks with senior U.S. officials on Russian drone incidents and security in the Black Sea region.

The Romanian delegation is expected to meet representatives of U.S. President Donald Trump's administration and members of Congress to discuss repeated violations of Romanian airspace by Russian drones, as well as broader regional security challenges in the Black Sea, Caliber.Az reports per Romanian media.

Commenting on the visit, national security adviser Marius Lazurca wrote on X:

"These threats remind us just how important our strong security partnership with the United States is, and how grateful we are for it."

The visit comes after Romania reported shooting down a drone that entered its airspace for the third consecutive day on July 26.

On July 27, Romania's Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Russia's ambassador to Bucharest and declared a member of the Russian diplomatic mission persona non grata following the latest incidents.
