Death toll exceeds 51,000 in Gaza amid ongoing Israeli airstrikes
The Palestinian Ministry of Health has announced that the death toll from Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip reached 51,266 since the beginning of the conflict on October 7, 2023.
In just the last 24 hours, 26 more Palestinians were killed as the Israeli military continued its offensive, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.
The ministry provided the latest casualty figures, revealing the dire impact of the ongoing attacks. In addition to the 26 fatalities, 60 individuals were also reported to have sustained injuries in the latest wave of airstrikes, with all of them being rushed to local hospitals for medical treatment.
Since the breakdown of a ceasefire agreement on March 18, which had been in place since January 19, the number of Palestinians killed in Israeli military operations has surged by 1,890, with 4,950 more injured. These figures reflect the intensifying violence in the region and the continuing humanitarian crisis.
The latest figures bring the overall tally of Palestinian casualties to 51,266 dead and 116,991 injured since the start of the conflict in October 2023, underscoring the devastating toll of the ongoing hostilities.
On March 18, the Israeli military resumed combat operations in the Gaza Strip, launching a series of massive strikes that effectively ended the ceasefire established in January 2025.
The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu justified the escalation, citing the refusal of the radical Palestinian group Hamas to accept proposals put forward by mediators and US president’s special envoy Steve Witkoff. According to Netanyahu’s office, the goal of the operation in the enclave is the liberation of all hostages. In response, Hamas blamed Israel and the US for the renewal of hostilities.
