Spain to allocate €25 million for unaccompanied migrant minors in Ceuta

04 August 2026 16:57

Spain will allocate €25 million to support unaccompanied migrant minors who arrived in the autonomous city of Ceuta during the recent migration crisis, Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration Elma Saiz has announced.

The minister said the funding demonstrates that Madrid "has been and will continue to stand by" Ceuta, particularly its "most vulnerable communities, Caliber.Az reports per Spanish media.

In late July, tens of thousands of irregular migrants reached the autonomous city by swimming or by walking around the breakwater separating Ceuta from Morocco. In response to the crisis, the Spanish government deployed military personnel to help maintain security in the city.

At least 72 people also died while attempting to reach Ceuta. The vast majority of the irregular migrants are believed to have already returned to Morocco.
