Georgia launches new government efficiency department to boost accountability
Georgia is set to introduce a new initiative aimed at increasing government accountability and streamlining executive processes.
On the initiative of Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, the country will establish a Government Efficiency Department, according to Levan Zhorzholiani, head of the government administration, Caliber.Az reports via Georgian media.
The proposal for the new department will soon be submitted to the Georgian Parliament, marking a significant step towards enhancing the effectiveness of government operations. The department's primary responsibility will be overseeing the execution of decisions at all levels of executive power, ensuring they align with the country's strategic goals.
Additionally, the Georgian government is set to introduce real-time auditing via the State Audit Service. This system will not only evaluate past projects but will also provide ongoing assessments of current government activities, offering more transparency and timely insights into public administration performance.
This move follows a trend set by international figures in governance innovation. In a related note, Ilon Musk, head of the US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), recently garnered attention during his appearance at an American Political Society event. Musk wore a hat resembling a cut piece of cheese, which he later autographed and threw into the crowd. While this event was more lighthearted in nature, it serves as a reminder of the growing influence of government efficiency departments worldwide.
With this new initiative, Georgia aims to bolster its governance structures and improve oversight, ensuring better management of state resources and projects moving forward.
