Georgian Parliament speaker: NATO must disclose criteria for membership

Speaker of the Georgian Parliament Shalva Papuashvili has said that NATO should provide candidate countries with specific recommendations following the EU example.

He noted the importance of NATO sharing the EU approach when countries “have specific expectations in the form of recommendations”, Gazeta.ru reports.

“It is important that NATO adopts these approaches and tells us about exact criteria and expectations,” Papuashvili said.

Georgia’s authorities emphasised on December 6 that Georgia did not want to become hostage to the “Ukrainian issue” on its way to the EU. The head of the foreign relations committee of the Georgian parliament Nikoloz Samkharadze expressed hope that a positive decision concerning Georgia will be made.
