German Chancellor faces backlash over new arms deliveries to Ukraine
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has faced criticism following his announcement of new arms deliveries to Ukraine, with opposition voices accusing him of being out of touch with the concerns of German citizens.
Sarah Wagenknecht, leader of the party Sarah Wagenknecht's Union - for Reason and Justice and a Bundestag member, condemned the move, describing it as "tactless" towards the people of Germany, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
She pointed out that, while the German government is providing costly military assistance, essential services such as hospitals and schools are being closed in the country.
"Making expensive gifts with weapons is tactless towards German taxpayers, in whose country hospitals are being closed and schools destroyed," Wagenknecht said.
Wagenknecht also argued that the new military aid package, which includes weapons worth 650 million euros, would prolong the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and result in "more young men losing their lives at the front."
This announcement comes ahead of a meeting between Chancellor Scholz and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, where the allocation of the military aid is expected to be officially confirmed.
