Egypt engages in mediation to ease Middle East tensions
Badr Abdelatty said Egypt is actively engaged in diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East, including mediation initiatives involving key regional and international actors.
Speaking during an official visit to Lebanon, Abdelatty said Cairo is maintaining close contact with partners in the United States, France and Israel in an effort to halt Israel’s ground operation in southern Lebanon, according to Al Jazeera.
The Egyptian foreign minister emphasised the importance of a full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory and called on all parties to adhere to United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, which calls for a ceasefire and the disarmament of Hezbollah.
Abdelatty also said that Egypt, together with Türkiye and Pakistan, is working to facilitate communication between the United States and Iran, as part of broader mediation efforts aimed at reducing tensions across the region.
