Germany approves additional financial aid for Ukraine
Head of the working group coordinating aid to Ukraine at the German Defence Ministry, Major General Christian Freuding has said that Germany's Federal Defence Ministry intends to continue its support for Ukraine.
“The Bundestag, the country's parliament, has approved 400 million euros [$438 million] for military assistance to Kyiv. We have just received Bundestag approval for additional 400 million euros for 2024. This will enable us to implement a total of 50 projects this year, amounting to 1.4 billion euros [$1.5 billion]," Freuding stated, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
He also noted that the US authorities have pledged 8 billion euros ($8.8 billion) in aid for Ukraine.
"For me, this is not a sign of fatigue, but rather a sign of determination," he said in response to a question about whether Western countries are growing weary of the conflict.
He assured that Germany will continue supporting Kyiv.
"Last week, we delivered two IRIS-T SLM and SLS air defence systems. This year, we will provide two air defence systems, infantry fighting vehicles and main battle tanks, as well as a significant quantity of artillery ammunition," Freuding noted.
The general said that Ukraine's artillery supply has improved. "Russia's artillery superiority is no longer as great as it was in spring; it has decreased from 8:1 to approximately 3:1," he stated.
Germany is the second-biggest arms supplier to Ukraine after the US.
To date, it has allocated approximately 28 billion euros ($30 billion) for military support and committed to future expenditures. According to the 2025 budget agreement, Germany will provide 4 billion euros ($4.4 billion) in military support to Ukraine, which is half of what was allocated in 2024. Russian authorities have repeatedly asserted that the influx of weapons to Ukraine will not diminish Russia's resolve or change the course of the special military operation.
