Ukraine's president arrives in Denmark for talks with key European backers PHOTO
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has arrived in Denmark for an official visit as the Nordic country launched its European Union presidency, the Danish prime minister’s office said.
Zelenskyy travelled to the city of Aarhus to attend the official ceremony marking Denmark’s assumption of the rotating EU presidency, which began on July 1, Caliber.Az reports, citing Western media.
The event will also be attended by Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, King Frederik X, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
In addition to participating in the ceremony, President Zelenskyy is scheduled to hold meetings with several European officials.
“Ukraine belongs in the EU. It is in the interest of both Denmark and Europe. Therefore, the Danish Presidency will do everything we can to help Ukraine on its path towards EU membership,” Frederiksen said in a statement.
During his visit to Denmark, Zelenskyy is also expected to discuss cooperation in the defence industry and new sanctions against Russia.
His trip comes after the Trump administration decided to halt some arms shipments promised to help Kyiv fight off Russia’s invasion.
