Germany says Russia poses major threat to Europe
President of the German Parliament (Bundestag), Julia Klöckner, has warned that Russia poses a major threat to Europe and has more than just Ukraine in its sights.
Speaking ahead of a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, she said hybrid warfare, cyberattacks and similar threats have increased significantly, including against the German Bundestag, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
"Germany and other European countries realise that Russia has its sights set not only on Ukraine. Russia is a major threat, and we know that. That is why we are assessing the situation realistically,’ she stressed.
Klöckner suggested that Russian President Vladimir Putin knows that if the territory of NATO were attacked, it would trigger a clear response.
Germany has shown support for Ukraine since the first days of the Russia-Ukraine war.
As of early 2026, Germany has provided Ukraine with more than €90 billion in total bilateral aid, including approximately €55 billion in military assistance and €39 billion in civilian support.
Key aid includes advanced air defence systems (Patriot, IRIS-T), Leopard tanks, training for more than 24,000 soldiers, and hosting over one million refugees.
