Harris accepts CNN's invitation for second debate with Trump
US Vice President Kamala Harris has agreed to participate in a second round of debates with Republican candidate Donald Trump on October 23, following an invitation from CNN.
This announcement was made by Jen O'Malley-Dillon, the chair of Harris's campaign, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
O'Malley-Dillon emphasized that it would be unprecedented for Harris and Trump to have only one televised debate. "Vice President Harris is eager for another opportunity to share the stage with Donald Trump and accepts CNN's invitation for the debate on October 23. Trump should have no problem agreeing to this," she stated, noting that the debate's rules will mirror those from the previous one held in late June, which featured Trump alongside incumbent President Joe Biden.
The initial debate took place on September 10 in Philadelphia, organized by ABC News and broadcast live across major US networks. However, there remains uncertainty about whether additional debates will occur, as Trump expressed reluctance for further engagements with Harris on September 12.
The US presidential election is set for November 5. While President Biden was initially expected to represent the Democratic Party, his lacklustre performance in the June debate led to calls for him to withdraw. On July 21, Biden officially stepped aside and endorsed Harris as the party's candidate. In August, she was confirmed as the Democratic nominee, with Trump as her primary opponent.
