Hezbollah official says US pressure on Israel key to any ceasefire deal
Hassan Ezzedine, a member of Hezbollah’s parliamentary bloc, said that any potential ceasefire in the region would depend largely on the United States’ ability to exert pressure on Israel to ensure compliance.
Ezzedine, who represents the “Loyalty to the Resistance” bloc in the Lebanese parliament, was responding to questions about Iran’s stance on developments in Lebanon and its role in any prospective agreements involving the United States, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media.
He said the Islamic Republic of Iran has consistently supported Lebanon, offering political backing and seeking to contribute to ending Israeli attacks through diplomatic and political means.
He added that Tehran has not sought, and does not seek, to interfere in Lebanon’s internal affairs, replace Lebanese state institutions, or act as a negotiating proxy on behalf of Beirut.
According to Ezzedine, Hezbollah’s view is that the key issue is not the announcement of a ceasefire itself, but whether the parties involved — particularly the United States — have the leverage to ensure that Israel adheres to its terms.
