Media: US B-52 bombers drop bombs on Finnish soil during joint exercises
For the first time, American B-52 bombers dropped bombs on ground targets during military exercises in Finland.
On March 6, Finnish and US Air Forces carried out joint live-fire exercises at the Rovajärvi range, located in Finland's northern region, Caliber.Az reports via Finnish media.
The Finnish Air Force shared details of the event on social media platform X, noting that the exercise marked a significant milestone in the two countries' military cooperation. Two US Air Force F/A-18 Hornet fighters escorted two B-52 Stratofortress bombers to the range.
Once at the location, tactical air controllers from the Finnish army and US Air Force personnel provided the bombers with precise target coordinates for the JDAM-guided bombs. "This marks the first time a B-52 bomber has conducted combat firing exercises on Finnish soil," the Finnish Air Force said in its statement.
