Hotel prices skyrocket in Anchorage as Putin-Trump meeting approaches
Some hotels in Anchorage, the largest city in the U.S. state of Alaska, have nearly doubled their prices ahead of the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump.
The agency compared hotel room prices immediately after Trump announced the meeting with Putin and then 24 hours later, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
The date chosen for the analysis was August 15, the date named by the American leader, and the night of August 16. Booking.com was used as the data source.
It was found that the price of a room at the Hilton Anchorage hotel rose from $347 per night immediately after the meeting announcement to $657. Similarly, Wyndham Garden Anchorage Airport increased from $499 to $609 per night, and The Wildbirch Hotel in JdV by Hyatt rose from $322 to $547 during the same period. Prices at Hampton Inn Anchorage also increased from $352 to $616 per night, the agency reports.
The primary focus of the meeting will be the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. President Trump has suggested that a potential peace agreement could involve territorial adjustments, a proposal that has been met with strong opposition from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European leaders. Zelenskyy has firmly rejected any territorial concessions, emphasising Ukraine's constitutional integrity.
While the summit is expected to begin as a bilateral meeting, President Trump has indicated openness to expanding it into a trilateral discussion that includes President Zelenskyy, aiming to facilitate direct dialogue among the key parties involved .
