House explosion in Italy’s Verona kills three Carabinieri, injures dozens
A house in Castel d’Azzano, a municipality in Italy’s Verona province, exploded on October 13, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries.
The blast killed three Carabinieri officers and injured 13 other soldiers and police personnel, according to Italian newspaper Ansa.
According to preliminary reports, law enforcement officers were on site to clear the two-story farmhouse, which was occupied by three people, when the explosion occurred. The force of the blast caused the entire building to collapse, trapping the responding officers.
Firefighters arrived promptly at the scene and were able to assist the trapped Carabinieri. Among the residents, a woman was injured and is believed to have triggered the explosion. The incident is currently under investigation, with authorities examining the circumstances that led to the deadly blast.
