IAEA: Repairs begin on damaged power lines at Zaporizhzhia NPP
Repair work has commenced on damaged power lines at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, following a four-week shutdown that left the facility without external power.
As reported by Caliber.Az, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi confirmed the development on his X page.
“Work has begun to repair damaged off-site power lines to ZNPP after a 4-week outage, following the establishment of local ceasefire zones to allow work to proceed,” Grossi stated.
He emphasised that both sides have cooperated constructively with the IAEA to ensure the successful implementation of the comprehensive repair plan.
“Restoration of off-site power is crucial for nuclear safety and security. Both sides engaged constructively with the IAEA to enable the complex repair plan to proceed,” the IAEA chief added.
Zaporizhzhia NPP is Europe’s largest nuclear power facility and has been under Russian control since March 2022. Both Ukraine and Russia have accused each other of shelling the plant, raising ongoing concerns over its safety and security.
