Iran rejects reports of arms transfers to Russia as “ugly propaganda”

11 September 2024 10:10

Iran's Foreign Ministry has dismissed claims of weapons transfers to Russia as "ugly propaganda" aimed at diverting attention from Western military aid to Israel.

This statement came on September 10 following threats from Western powers to impose fresh sanctions on Tehran over the matter.

"The publication of false and misleading reports about the transfer of Iranian weapons to some countries is simply an ugly propaganda to conceal the large illegal arms support of US and some Western countries for the genocide in Gaza," Caliber.Az quotes Kanaani as saying in a post on X.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on September 11, that Russia had received ballistic missiles, opens new tab from Iran and would likely use them in Ukraine within weeks, warning that cooperation between Moscow and Tehran threatened wider European security.

Alongside US, France, Germany and Britain said they would apply new sanctions on Iran, including measures against its national airline Iran Air.

"Some Western countries present themselves as defenders of human rights and support the implementation of international conventions and treaties, but send all kinds of weapons to back the war crimes of the Zionist regime (Israel)," Kanaani added in his post, primarily about the war in Gaza.

Iran is already among the most heavily sanctioned nations globally, leading some experts to question the effectiveness of further economic penalties, which may disproportionately affect the middle class rather than the country's leadership.
