Oman mediates as Iran prepares response to latest US nuclear proposal
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed that Tehran is currently reviewing a recent proposal submitted by the United States through Oman, as indirect nuclear negotiations between the two countries continue.
The development comes amid efforts to revive the stalled talks aimed at reaching an agreement on Iran’s nuclear program and sanctions relief, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media.
Speaking at a cabinet meeting, Araghchi reported that Iran’s response to the American proposal is being carefully prepared. “The response to that letter is being prepared,” he stated, underscoring Tehran’s measured and principled approach.
Earlier, in a post on his social media account, Araghchi revealed that Oman’s Foreign Minister, Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, personally delivered the US offer during a brief visit to Tehran.
“My dear brother Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, distinguished Foreign Minister of Oman, paid a short visit to Tehran today to present elements of a US proposal which will be appropriately responded to in line with the principles, national interests and rights of the people of Iran,” Araghchi said.
Since April 12, Iran and the United States have engaged in five rounds of indirect negotiations mediated by Oman, seeking to bridge differences over Iran’s nuclear ambitions and the lifting of sanctions imposed on Tehran. While no direct talks have taken place, these rounds represent the most sustained diplomatic efforts in recent months to salvage the 2015 nuclear agreement, from which the US withdrew in 2018.
