Tourist evacuation begins at Russia's Kamchatka nature park after heavy rains Azerbaijani citizen among them
23 August 2026 09:51
An operation to evacuate 117 tourists has begun at the Volcanoes of Kamchatka Nature Park in Russia’s Far East, the regional government’s press service reported.
Among the tourists is Azerbaijani citizen Tatyana Dolivets.
Aircraft are being used to evacuate the people. The first helicopter headed to the Dead Forest site, where the group is gathering. From there, the tourists will be taken to a road and then transported by bus to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
The tourist groups became stranded after heavy rains hit the area around Plosky Tolbachik volcano on August 22. The rainfall caused the water level in the Studenaya River to rise and washed out the road, cutting off access for vehicles.
