Tashkent adorns streets with Azerbaijani flags ahead of Aliyev’s visit
The streets of Tashkent have been decorated with the flags of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan ahead of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s state visit.
National flags of the two countries have been displayed side by side along the city’s main streets and in central districts, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev is scheduled to pay a state visit to Uzbekistan on August 23-24, 2026, at the invitation of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, during which the two leaders will hold high-level talks and chair the third meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council focused on expanding their strategic partnership and allied relations.
The agenda prioritizes boosting bilateral trade, enhancing business and regional cooperation, advancing transport and transit links, and cultural exchanges, with a package of agreements and new economic and humanitarian projects expected to be signed.
In a pre-visit interview, Aliyev highlighted that Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan ties—rooted in shared history, culture, and values—have reached the level of alliance, with trade turnover more than tripling to $795 million in 2025.
