Putin declares nation's development on track despite external challenges

Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia is continuing its development despite ongoing challenges, pointing to large-scale initiatives across the economy, defence sector, and state administration.

Speaking during a period of active political preparation, Putin emphasised the nation's independence, describing Russia as a sovereign state capable of determining its own trajectory. He addressed the upcoming legislative term, noting that lawmakers elected to the ninth convocation of the State Duma must be prepared to defend national interests and serve the public. He added that the vote would demonstrate state stability and reflect the collective intent of a united population determined to protect the country's interests.

The comments coincided with the second stage of the ruling United Russia party's pre-election congress held in Moscow on Saturday, August 22. Delegates gathered to approve a five-year "people's program" designed to serve as the party's platform through 2031.

The official campaign for the State Duma legislative elections commenced after Putin signed an executive decree scheduling the vote. Voting will occur over a three-day period from September 18 to September 20, 2026.
