Tokayev teases Kazakhstan’s upcoming vice president appointment
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev revealed after voting in the elections for Kurultai deputies that the country’s vice president would be a “well-known person whom everyone knows.”
The head of state emphasized that the position had been deliberately enshrined in the Constitution and was particularly necessary in the current challenging period, according to Kazakh media.
“It will become known within the next week or 10 days who will take the post of vice president. It would be premature to name him now,” Tokayev said.
The president also announced the launch of a new state body, the Kazakhstan People’s Council (Halyk Kenesi).
According to him, the council will serve as a multifunctional political mechanism that will strengthen the work previously carried out by the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan.
“I am confident that the work of the Halyk Kenesi will be productive,” he added.
