Iran's parliament speaker: Neighbours seek new security, economic deals
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said on August 22 that Tehran had received messages from several neighbouring countries concerning new security arrangements and stronger economic cooperation.
Ghalibaf said the messages reflected growing interest among regional countries in developing new frameworks for security cooperation as Iran seeks to reshape its regional relations amid ongoing geopolitical changes, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
His remarks came as Iran steps up coordination with neighbouring states, particularly Iraq, on security, economic and energy issues. Tehran has increasingly called for a regional security system led by countries in the region and without foreign interference.
Ghalibaf made the comments during a visit to Baghdad, where discussions focused on border security, counterterrorism and regional developments, as well as expanding economic ties and implementing bilateral agreements.
