Tbilisi hosts event marking 100 years since First Turkology Congress
An event marking the 100th anniversary of the First Congress of Turkology, held in Baku in 1926, is taking place in Georgia’s capital, Tbilisi.
The event, titled “The First Turkological Congress: 100 Years. From History to the Future,” was organised by the Ma’arif organisation at the M.F. Akhundov Museum of Azerbaijani Culture, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Scholars and researchers from Baku, along with representatives of Georgia’s intellectual community, are attending the event.
Yüksel Kara, education adviser at the Turkish Embassy in Georgia, highlighted the importance of the First Congress of Turkology to the history of science, language and culture among Turkic peoples.
Participants are also discussing the academic legacy of the congress and developments in Turkic studies over the past century.
