South Caucasus transit connectivity tops agenda in Georgian-Armenian speaker talks
Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili hosted Armenian National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan in the eastern Georgian city of Telavi on June 2, during an informal visit that highlighted growing regional cooperation.
According to a statement from the Georgian Parliament’s press office, the discussions between the two speakers focused on strengthening ties between Georgia and Armenia, with particular emphasis on enhancing parliamentary collaboration, Caliber.Az reports.
Both sides acknowledged the robust agenda maintained over the past year, which included fruitful bilateral visits, and affirmed their shared commitment to deepening legislative cooperation moving forward.
In addition to bilateral matters, Papuashvili and Simonyan also addressed broader geopolitical developments and the current dynamics in the South Caucasus. They reaffirmed their joint willingness to work together in promoting peace, stability, and trust-building across the region.
A key theme of the meeting was the strategic importance of the South Caucasus as a transit corridor. Both parties underscored the value of leveraging the region’s transit potential, highlighting the role it can play in broader connectivity and economic cooperation efforts.
Speaker Papuashvili also welcomed Armenia’s ongoing efforts to expand dialogue with the European Union. He reiterated Georgia’s support for Armenia’s European path and expressed readiness to share Georgia’s own experience in advancing toward European integration.
