Iran's president-elect reaffirms support for regional "resistance forces", including Hezbollah
Masoud Pezeshkian, Iran's president-elect, has reaffirmed his commitment to supporting "resistance forces" in the region, including Hezbollah.
Pezeshkian wrote in response to a congratulatory message from Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah on his election that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always backed the resistance of the peoples of the region against the illegal Zionist regime, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
"This support is deeply rooted in Iran's fundamental policies, the ideals of the late Imam Khomeini, and the Supreme Leader's directives, and will continue with the same vigour," he noted.
Pezeshkian added, "I am confident that the resistance movements in the region will not allow this [Israeli] regime to continue its aggressive and criminal policies against the oppressed people of Palestine and other countries in the region."
Pezeshkian, a former health minister and seasoned parliamentarian, won the presidency of the Islamic Republic of Iran with 53.6 per cent of the vote in a decisive runoff election. His surprising win over the ultraconservative Saeed Jalili suggests a possible transformation in Iran's political environment, offering renewed optimism to reformist factions following years of conservative rule.
