Iranian army launches large-scale counterterrorism drills
The Iranian Army Ground Force has launched extensive military exercises in the country’s northeastern regions, showcasing its comprehensive combat capabilities.
Caliber.Az, referencing an Iranian media outlet, reports that the drills feature a range of participating units, including artillery, armoured divisions, airborne troops, drone squadrons, electronic warfare teams, and missile groups.
During the initial phase of the exercises on January 20 morning, rapid reaction brigades conducted simulated operations targeting terrorist groups beyond Iran's borders. These operations emphasized swift mobility and precision in neutralizing threats.
Key highlights of the drill included the destruction of mock hostile targets using Fajr-5 missiles and the deployment of Qaem bombs delivered by Mohajer-6 drones, demonstrating the effectiveness of Iran’s missile and unmanned aerial systems.
Iran’s Armed Forces conduct regular military exercises throughout the year as part of efforts to maintain operational readiness and deterrence.
Iranian officials have consistently reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing the nation’s military capabilities, particularly its missile power, stressing that these advancements are solely for defensive purposes and will remain non-negotiable in international discussions.
The drills follow the delivery of 1,000 advanced UAVs to the Iranian Army's Combat Organization. These include strategic, stealth, and anti-fortification drones.
Reflecting on the development, Defense Minister Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh highlighted the enhanced air dominance achieved by the Army.“The drones that joined the Combat Organization today provide the Islamic Republic’s Army with the capability to control the skies and deliver decisive blows to adversaries,” he stated.
