Iranian media rebukes rumours of coup in Damascus as psywar
Media publications about the presence of militant groups in Damascus do not correspond to reality, the Syrian army reflects rebel attacks in the vicinity of the city of Aleppo.
Salma Awdah, a correspondent for Tasnim based in the Syrian capital, confirmed that the city remains calm, dismissing claims of a coup as a psychological tactic by terrorists and their supporters aimed at undermining resistance and facilitating their advance, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media.
Since earlier today, media linked to terrorist groups and Syrian rebels have been circulating allegations of a military coup in Damascus. However, Tasnim’s correspondent has labeled these claims as unfounded. Videos purportedly depicting the alleged coup have also been debunked as fabricated.
Despite the calm in Damascus, Syrian Army units in the city and its surrounding areas remain on high alert to guard against potential conspiracies or acts of sabotage.
This follows a surprise offensive by foreign-backed terrorists, led by the Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) Takfiri group, in Aleppo and Idlib provinces. The group captured several villages and towns during their assault, eventually advancing into Aleppo. In response, the Syrian military has reportedly redeployed forces in Aleppo to prepare for a major counteroffensive against the extremists.
Syria has faced foreign-backed insurgency since 2011, with Damascus accusing Western nations and regional allies of supporting terrorist groups to destabilize the country. Terrorist organizations continue efforts to obstruct the Syrian government’s push for security and stability, compounded by regular attacks from Israel.
The Syrian government has long accused Israel of being a key supporter of terrorist factions opposing President Bashar al-Assad’s administration since the conflict began over a decade ago.
