“Iron brothers”: China, Pakistan unite against regional instability
Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari met with Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong to deliberate on key bilateral matters, with particular attention given to the growing tensions between Pakistan and India in the wake of the Pahalgam incident.
During the high-level meeting, President Zardari voiced serious concerns regarding recent developments emanating from New Delhi, citing the Indian government’s rhetoric and conduct as a destabilising force in the region, Caliber.Az reports citing Pakistani media.
“India's aggressive rhetoric and irresponsible actions jeopardize the fragile peace in South Asia,” the President asserted, underscoring the urgent need for restraint and dialogue to prevent further deterioration of regional stability.
President Zardari also took the opportunity to acknowledge and commend China’s consistent diplomatic and strategic support during periods of heightened tension. “We are deeply grateful for China's continued assistance, especially as we face challenging circumstances,” he noted.
Ambassador Jiang Zaidong, in response, reiterated Beijing’s steadfast commitment to its alliance with Islamabad, describing the relationship as one built on enduring trust and mutual objectives.
“China and Pakistan are ‘iron brothers,’ united in our shared goals and mutual respect. We have always stood by each other during difficult times,” the Ambassador stated, reaffirming the strategic depth of Sino-Pak relations.
He further assured that China would continue to back Pakistan’s efforts to maintain peace in the region. “We will remain steadfast in our support for Pakistan’s efforts to promote peace in South Asia, aligning with our common aspirations for a stable and peaceful future,” Jiang added.
The meeting comes at a time of heightened diplomatic friction in South Asia, as Islamabad seeks greater international engagement to address what it perceives as provocative actions by India.
