Is Russia going to attack the Baltics and Scandinavia? Lavrov has the answer
Statements by Western politicians that Russia could carry out a new "special mission" in Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Sweden and Finland are ridiculous, Gazeta.ru reports quoting Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
"The mentality is that everything related to Ukraine should be used to inflict, as they say, a 'strategic defeat' on Russia...," the diplomat said.
Lavrov recalled Biden's words about the Baltic countries, Sweden and Finland being "next" if Russia conquered Ukraine.
According to the Russian foreign minister, the "absurdity" of such statements is clear to anyone who has at least a little knowledge of history and understands the goals announced by the Russian leadership regarding the "special military operation" in Ukraine.
Lavrov stressed that the Russian troops in Ukraine were eliminating "historical injustices" and attempts to rewrite history by turning the current territories where Russians and other peoples of Russia have lived for centuries into a bridgehead that NATO, led by the United States, would use to threaten the security of the Russian state.
