Newspaper: Military сargo floods into Russia’s military base in Armenia
The Armenian newspaper Hraparak reports significant reinforcement activities at Russia’s 102nd military base located in Gyumri, Armenia.
According to the publication, large shipments of military equipment and ammunition have been delivered to the base over recent weeks, with several cargo planes arriving daily carrying military supplies, Caliber.Az reports.
The exact purpose of these deliveries remains unclear. Some speculate that Moscow may be preparing for possible changes in the region, despite Russia’s publicly calm stance on discussions about a potential withdrawal from Armenia. Armenian authorities are reportedly aware but have not commented publicly.
The 102nd Military Base traces its origins back to the Soviet era, established as part of the 7th Guards Army stationed in the Transcaucasus region. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, Russia inherited the base, which was officially formalised under a bilateral agreement between Armenia and Russia in 1995. It has since functioned as one of Russia’s largest military installations outside its borders.
Located in Gyumri, Armenia’s second-largest city, the base occupies a vast area with barracks, training grounds, and support infrastructure. Over the years, it has hosted thousands of Russian troops, serving various functions such as rapid deployment forces and military training.
