Moscow talks lead Lukashenko to set new tasks for Belarus government

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has issued instructions to the country’s government following talks with Russian leadership held in Moscow at the end of last week.

On September 2, the head of state heard a report from Prime Minister Alexander Turchin and issued a number of relevant instructions to the Cabinet of Ministers, Caliber.Az reports, citing Belarusian state media.

“In fact, the heads of state approved the agreements reached by the governments of Belarus and Russia. The agenda was very broad, covering cooperation in the energy sector, industrial cooperation, the implementation of joint integration projects, and agricultural cooperation,” the prime minister said.

The instructions followed Lukashenko’s two-day working visit to Russia from August 27 to 29, during which he held a series of high-level meetings focused on bilateral cooperation. 

On August 28, he met with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin to discuss trade, investment and industrial cooperation, before holding talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin the following day on bilateral economic ties, security, and regional and international issues.

The sides noted strong growth in bilateral trade, which reached nearly $52 billion in 2025 and increased by 12.5% in the first half of 2026. They also highlighted growing Russian investment and the successful implementation of existing agreements despite external pressures.
