Turkish president signals potential talks with Russian, US counterparts on Ukraine peace efforts
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has announced he may hold talks with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump this week, with the aim of convening a high-level meeting in Istanbul focused on the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Speaking to journalists, Erdoğan expressed his intention to bring together key global figures to explore possible diplomatic solutions to the conflict, Caliber.Az reports per Ukrainian media.
“I can talk to Putin and Trump this week. We aim to bring the leaders together in Istanbul,” Erdoğan said.
The Turkish president highlighted previous efforts to mediate between Russia and Ukraine, recalling the 2022 negotiations held at Istanbul’s historic Çırağan Palace. During those talks, Turkish officials played a key facilitative role, engaging directly with both delegations.
“My foreign minister facilitated the meeting on my behalf. While my foreign minister was holding talks there, the Russian and Ukrainian delegations met and held their meetings,” Erdoğan stated.
