Iran says regional security depends on cooperation among Middle East states
Esmail Baghaei, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, said that the stability and security of the Middle East depend largely on cooperation among the countries of the region.
Baghaei made the remarks in an interview with the Xinhua News Agency.
Speaking about the ongoing tensions in the region, he said the Iranian people are prepared to defend both themselves and their country. Baghaei noted that Iran’s rich civilisation has a long history and has repeatedly demonstrated resilience when confronted with injustice.
The foreign ministry spokesperson also said Tehran intends to deepen relations with Persian Gulf states and other neighbouring countries. According to him, cooperation among regional powers is essential for preventing the escalation of conflicts and ensuring long-term regional stability.
Baghaei added that recent strikes on foreign military facilities in the region were carried out in response to the deployment of bases used for military operations against Iran. He argued that countries in the region have increasingly recognised that the presence of foreign troops does not contribute to peace and security in the Middle East.
