Kazakh president participates personally in drafting new Constitution
Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev took part in voting for the national referendum on the draft of a new Constitution.
According to Caliber.Az, the presidential press service reported that the head of state voted at polling station No. 51, located in the Palace of Schoolchildren.
After voting, the President held a briefing for representatives of domestic and foreign media.
In his address, he emphasised the exceptional importance of the referendum for the country’s future development.
“Congratulations to all of you, as today is a momentous day for our country. The Constitution is truly a historic document that guarantees the rights and freedoms of our citizens. The new Constitution affirms the territorial integrity, independence, and sovereignty of our country,” the head of state said.
Tokayev noted that the 1995 Constitution had played its role, but the time had come to adopt a new Basic Law. He added that he personally participated in drafting the document and proposed the wording of the preamble and several provisions.
“I am confident that the new Basic Law will serve the benefit of the country and its future,” the president stated.
