Iran thanks China for opposing US sanctions pressure
Iran has welcomed China’s opposition to U.S. plans to increase sanctions pressure on Tehran, with Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf praising Beijing’s position.
"We welcome China’s principled statement rejecting illegal sanctions against Iran,” Ghalibaf wrote on X late Wednesday, August 26.
He described relations between Tehran and Beijing as a “comprehensive strategic partnership.”
“This relationship needs no one’s permission,” Ghalibaf added.
China’s Foreign Ministry had earlier said Beijing opposed sanctions that it considers contrary to international law and not authorised by the UN Security Council. The ministry also warned that China would protect its interests in the field of trade.
Ghalibaf is one of the senior members of Iran’s delegation involved in negotiations with the United States aimed at resolving the conflict.
