Iran confirms death of IRGC Gen Babaeian after US-Israeli strikes
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), an elite branch of the Iranian Armed Forces, has confirmed the death of Abolghasem Babaeian, a special inspector of the country’s General Staff, per Fars News Agency.
“General Abolghasem Babaeian was killed as a result of strikes by Israel and the United States. We express our condolences to his family and comrades,” the statement said.
It did not specify when exactly the general was killed.
On March 8, Israel’s military said it killed Abolghasem Babaeian in an air strike in Tehran on March 7, describing him as the head of the military office of Iran’s former supreme leader Ali Khamenei and chief of staff of the Khatam al-Anbiya command.
He was responsible for coordinating between Iranian institutions for actions against Israel and activating the regime’s emergency mechanisms, the military said.
