Israel made strike decision on Iran at "last possible minute", says foreign minister
Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar has said the decision to launch a large-scale military strike against Iran was taken at the “last possible minute,” following the failure of all other diplomatic efforts.
Sa’ar made the comments during a telephone conversation with his German counterpart, Johann Wadephul, as part of a series of calls with foreign ministers around the world to explain Israel’s actions, Caliber.Az reports citing American media.
According to a statement from Sa’ar’s office, he told Wadephul that “the decision to launch the strikes was made at the last possible minute, after all other avenues had been exhausted.”
Referring to Iran’s nuclear ambitions, Sa’ar said, “The whole world saw and understood that the Iranians were not ready to stop and we had to stop them,” citing the latest report from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
“We know that challenging days lie ahead, but we have no other choice,” he added.
The statement was published on the Israeli Foreign Ministry website following the series of international discussions.
