Romania intercepts Russian drone near Ukraine border

The Romanian Air Force intercepted a drone it identified as Russian, national broadcaster Antena 3 CNN reports.

Two F-16 fighter jets from the 86th Air Base in Fetești were scrambled in the evening of September 13, to monitor the situation along the border with Ukraine.

The measures were taken against the backdrop of Russian airstrikes on Ukrainian infrastructure along the Danube.

The incident occurred near the city of Tulcea, close to the Ukrainian border. Authorities noted that the drone did not fly over populated areas and “posed no direct threat to the population.”
